I saw this celtic knot mat on pinterest (http://pinterest.com/pin/247486941992985019/) and decided to have a go.

The door mat looks amazing, and is something I'm aiming for, but as a starter I thought this one has turned out quite well for a smaller scale - it took ab bit of trial and erroer trying to get the cord to stay in place while the first round of the knot was sorted , but pins seemed to do the job

I couldn't resist this pretty pendant on a recent trip to the danger that is HobbyCraft.  But then it sat in my sewing box while I worked out what to do with it.  Then when my house mates birthday came around I realised it was perfect for her, so a bit of ribbon later, and this was the end result.

I'd bought the gingham ribbon ages a go on a whim, finally the perfect use for it!  I know it's a really simple vase but I like the clean crisp look.

So last weekend I arrived at my parents and briefed my Dad on my weekend project, which would involve raiding his workshop for wood, tools etc.  The project was to make a spool board to tidy up my cotton reels, so I can actually see what I have.  After batting a few ideas around, and working out what materials were needed the following was created.  Once painted the holes will be filled with bolts, secured with shiney nuts, and the whole thing will stand on little feet.

I'm not quite brave enough with paints to go stright to painting on the design, so I started with chalk pastels.  I've adapted the design from a postcard I've had pinned up on my notice board for ages, it's called Tulp-hart met leliehoekmotief and I think it's beautiful.  I'm still not convinced about the colours for the butterflies I've added, but if I leave it for a day or two I might feel inspired.  It either needs a lot more blue, or none, maybe a cup of tea and a biscuit will help.

What better way to spend a weekend morning, thats not quite a sunny as I was hoping for, sitting with a big mug of tea (I like tea), painting my spool board.  Here it is 'naked' and almost full, although there is definately space for more cottons - always good to leave room for expansion!  Project Spool Board - Complete.
